Last updated: 2026-02-15

This privacy policy explains the type, scope, and purpose of personal data processing when using the Bookmarkr browser extension.

2) Which data is processed?

Bookmarkr primarily works locally in your browser. The following data may be processed:

  • Bookmark data from Chrome (title, URL, folder structure)
  • Tags, filter settings, and UI preferences you manage
  • Link status (active/broken/not checked) and timestamps
  • Recently used information for bookmarks

3) Purposes and legal bases

Displaying usage views Visit/usage information in browser context Views like "Most visited" and "Recently used" Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR

4) Landing page, cookies, and consent

On the landing page, we use a cookie banner to manage consent. Your choice ("Necessary only" or "Accept all") is stored locally in your browser under the key bookmarkr_cookie_consent_v1. This storage is used only for consent handling and can be changed anytime via "Cookie settings" in the footer.

At this time, no optional analytics or tracking services are loaded on the landing page. Any future optional analytics will only be activated based on your consent.

5) Storage location and recipients

Based on the current feature set, data managed by Bookmarkr is mostly stored locally in your browser (Chrome `storage.local` and bookmark structure). Core extension features do not share this data with third parties.

Bookmarkr does not use analytics or tracking services for core functionality.

Network requests are only sent if you actively trigger specific actions, for example link availability checks (HEAD requests to your bookmark URLs) or opening external links.

Note: If you use external links (for example feedback pages), the privacy policies of those providers also apply.

6) Retention and deletion

Data remains stored until you delete it in Chrome or in Bookmarkr (for example tags, bookmarks, folders, or export files). Depending on browser behavior, uninstalling the extension may remove stored data.

7) Data security

  • Use of Chrome browser security mechanisms
  • Primarily local processing on your device
  • Minimized external data processing in core features

8) Data subject rights

  • Access (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • Objection (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • Complaint to a supervisory authority

9) Changes to this privacy policy

We update this privacy policy when legal requirements or extension features change.
